Wi-Fi and network troubleshooting
Wireless printers drop off the network for predictable reasons: a new router or password, weak signal, a changed IP address, or a device on a different network. Here's how to narrow it down.
Sounds familiar?
- The printer shows as offline
- Printing worked yesterday but not today
- You changed your Wi-Fi name or password
- Printing is slow or times out
Quick checks, in order
- 1
Check the printer's network status
Most printers can print a network configuration page. It shows whether the printer is connected and which network it is on.
- 2
Restart the router, then the printer
Restart the router first and wait for it to come back, then restart the printer so it reconnects cleanly.
- 3
Move closer, temporarily
If the signal is weak, bring the printer nearer the router to test. If that fixes it, consider a better location or a wired connection.
- 4
Reconnect after a router change
If the Wi-Fi name or password changed, re-run the printer's wireless setup from its control panel. Enter the Wi-Fi password only on the printer itself.
