Reconnect a printer after a router or Wi-Fi password change

A new router, new Wi-Fi name or new password disconnects wireless printers. Here's how to get it back on the network.

Printers remember the Wi-Fi network they were set up on. After a router or password change, they need to be connected again.

Reconnect the printer

  1. Have your Wi-Fi network name and password ready. Type the password only on the printer itself — our team will never ask for it.
  2. On the printer's control panel, open the wireless or network settings and choose the wireless setup wizard.
  3. Select your network name and enter the password.
  4. Wait for the wireless light or display to confirm it is connected.
  5. Print a network configuration page to check it joined the right network.
  6. On your computer, remove the old printer entry and add the printer again.

If your network isn't listed

  • Many printers only support 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. If your router combines 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under one name, the printer may still connect, but some mesh systems need 2.4 GHz turned on.
  • Move the printer closer to the router while setting it up.

If your printer doesn't have a display, setup is usually done from the manufacturer's official app or software.

General guidance for most printers. Steps and menu names vary by model; if something doesn't match yours, contact us instead of forcing a step.
