Clear a stuck print queue on Windows

Documents stuck as “Printing” or “Error” block everything behind them. Clear the queue safely.

A stuck job can stop every document after it.

Clear the queue

  1. Open Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners.
  2. Select your printer and choose Open print queue.
  3. Cancel every document in the list.
  4. If documents won't delete, turn the printer off and restart your computer.
  5. Turn the printer back on, wait until it is idle, and print a one-page test document.

Restart the print service (advanced, reversible)

  1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc and press Enter.
  2. Find Print Spooler, right-click it and choose Restart.
  3. Try printing again.

If jobs keep getting stuck, the driver may need to be reinstalled — see Reinstall a printer driver safely.
